Shake brings a diverse and uniquely international background to Downie Stewart. Originally from India, he has lived and worked in various parts of the world before finding his home in New Zealand, while spending time in the small West Coast village of Ōkārito. Prior to entering the legal profession, Shake worked across a range of industries including aviation, hospitality, tourism, sales, and the paint sector.
He began his legal career in 2025, with a strong sense of purpose and determination. A standout personal achievement has been completing his law degree while working full time and servicing a mortgage — a reflection of his work ethic and resilience. Shake was drawn to the legal profession by a desire to give back to the community and to make a meaningful, positive impact in people’s lives.
As a new member of the team, Shake has particularly valued the firm’s strong focus on staff engagement and the inclusive culture, including opportunities to connect through social events and team activities. Shake works primarily in Property Law, with a focus on residential conveyancing.
Outside the office, Shake has a passion for dancing, having discovered dance during the recent annual international dance day celebrations in Dunedin. He now regularly attends a variety of local dance classes and can often be found dancing most evenings of the week. He also enjoys exploring Dunedin and values time spent outdoors. At home, he enjoys relaxing with his cat, Lil Richie.
