J was admitted as a Solicitor and Barrister to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1997 and to the High Court and Federal Court of Australia in 2001.  His status as a solicitor and barrister in NZ was approved on his arrival.

J has a strong background in civil litigation, employment law, debt recovery and insolvency law, criminal law, and matrimonial and family law.

J has Legal Aid Lead Provider Status in Mental Health, Family Law, Criminal Law and Civil Law with the Legal Services Agency and can accept Legal Aid work in all areas.

He is a visiting supervisory lawyer with the Dunedin Community Law Centre and is involved with the training of Law Students through that Centre. He is also a judge and co-ordinator of the Minter Ellison Witness Examination Competition through the University of Otago Law School. He is a regular Duty Solicitor at the Dunedin Courts and attends the Invercargill Court in this regard when required. He is on the Mental Health Roster regarding the compulsory treatment of patients with Mental Health issues.

Since moving to Dunedin he has appeared throughout the South Island in the District Court, the High Court and the Family Court. He has also appeared before the Parole Board, the Employment Relations Authority, the Liquor Licensing Tribunal and the Disputes Tribunal.

J actively seeks to avoid Court if the client's objectives can be achieved through dispute resolution and he has had a lot of success in this regard.

J enjoys sport and plays soccer for Roslyn Wakari Masters.
